The battle for the primary account

Every bank wants to be the account customers live in.

The one where salary lands, balances build and everyday spending happens. Winning it costs money. Keeping it is harder.

  1. Growth spend resets

Campaigns bring customers in. Next quarter, the spending starts again from zero.

  2. Incentives fade

Cashback is spent and forgotten. Points sit unused. Fee waivers become expected.

  3. Ads buy a moment

Attention comes and goes. None of it builds the habit you are paying for.

What customers already value

Your customers buy mobile data every month. It runs their lives.

Work, family, payments, entertainment and getting around all depend on it. It is easy to value, already in the monthly budget, and it is needed again next week.

Data as a routine

Rewarding once creates a moment. Qualifying repeatedly creates a routine.

5GB this week. Another 5GB next week. A monthly allowance that unlocks in weekly steps keeps the behaviour and the benefit tied together, week after week.

A one-off reward

  1. Week 120GB once
  2. Week 2Nothing
  3. Week 3Nothing
  4. Week 4Nothing

A moment. Once it is spent, nothing ties the customer to the behaviour.

A routine: switch a week off to see what happens

Programmes

Reward the behaviours that grow your business.

Salary paid in, higher balances and more everyday transactions. Activation, reactivation and premium upgrades are routes to the same goal.

Win the salary account

Become the account where income lands first. A salary account is the clearest sign of a primary relationship, and the balances and spending that follow it.

Who it is for
Customers who already hold an account with you but appear to receive their income somewhere else, as your own data shows.
Qualifying behaviour
Salary or regular income paid into the account each month.
Benefit and how often
A monthly data allowance that unlocks in weekly steps for as long as the salary keeps arriving. Stop the salary, and the unlocks stop with it.
How it is measured
Salary accounts moved to you, compared with a matched group that was not offered the plan, and how many stay in place after the programme.

Grow balances

Grow the low-cost deposits you can lend, by giving customers a reason to hold more with you.

Who it is for
Active customers with room to keep more of their money in your account.
Qualifying behaviour
Holding an agreed average balance, or growing it, through the qualifying period.
Benefit and how often
Data unlocks each week the balance is held. The customer can see exactly what keeps the next week coming.
How it is measured
Extra balances against a matched control group, what those balances are worth to you, and the programme cost for each extra unit of balance.

Build everyday transactions

Make your card, app or account the everyday habit. Frequent use builds the relationship and gives you more chances to offer credit.

Who it is for
Customers who use you occasionally and spend most of their everyday money elsewhere.
Qualifying behaviour
An agreed number of qualifying payments or transfers each week, of the kinds you choose.
Benefit and how often
Weekly data while the habit continues, so the reward is tied to the routine, not to a single purchase.
How it is measured
How often customers transact compared with the control group, and the value of those extra transactions to you.

Activate new accounts

Turn new sign-ups into active customers, instead of accounts that are opened and left empty.

Who it is for
Customers who opened an account recently but have not funded it or started using it.
Qualifying behaviour
A first meaningful action, such as funding the account and making first payments, then continuing week by week.
Benefit and how often
A first unlock when the customer reaches first value, then weekly unlocks while they keep using the account.
How it is measured
Share of new customers who become active, how quickly they get there, and whether they are still active weeks later, each compared with a control group.

Wake dormant accounts

Bring dormant or inactive customers back, and keep them active rather than winning a one-off return.

Who it is for
Customers whose accounts have gone quiet, as you define inactivity.
Qualifying behaviour
Returning to the account, then keeping it active for consecutive weeks.
Benefit and how often
Data that unlocks for each week of renewed activity, so the value builds as the habit returns.
How it is measured
Customers still active several weeks after returning, against a control group. A single login or transaction is not counted as success.

Move customers up to premium

Deepen relationships by helping more customers reach, and stay in, a premium or relationship tier.

Who it is for
Customers close to the criteria for your next tier.
Qualifying behaviour
Meeting the tier criteria you already set, such as balance, income and activity, month after month.
Benefit and how often
A larger recurring data plan as part of the tier, which keeps arriving while the customer keeps the relationship.
How it is measured
Tier upgrades and how long customers stay in the tier, against a control group, and revenue for each tier customer.

Economics

Designed backwards from value.

We start from what a change in behaviour is worth to you, then work out what can profitably be spent to cause it. The reward comes last.

  1. Invested

What the programme spends on service, telecom and data.

  2. Customers reached

    The customers offered the plan.

  3. Extra behaviour

The change against the control group.

  4. More balances, transactions or salary

What that change looks like on your books.

  5. Value to you

    Priced with your own economics.

  6. Return

Value against spend, measured, not assumed.

What we measure

  • Extra balances
  • Transaction frequency
  • Salary accounts moved
  • Cost per extra outcome

What we do not count as success

  • Gigabytes given out
  • Clicks
  • Redemption rates

Every result is measured against a matched control group, so the proof is in your own numbers, not ours.

The Aura Method

Start with the behaviour, not the data.

Begin with why customers chose you and what they want to achieve. Then design the trigger, test it, and automate only what works.

  1. Find the opportunity

Why customers chose you, what they want, and what their behaviour is worth.

  2. Design the trigger

Audience, behaviour, threshold, benefit and frequency.

  3. Run the experiment

A test group against a matched control group.

  4. Automate what works

Customer activity triggers qualification and delivery automatically.

  5. Prove the economics

Extra behaviour, its value to you, and the return.

Managed outcomes, not just software

Where to begin

Start with one experiment.

Prove one routine before you scale it.

  • One group of customers
  • One valuable behaviour
  • One clear test of the economics
  • A matched control group
  • Scaling criteria agreed up front

Service, telecom and data are covered in one starting commitment.

From first insight to your own data plan

  1. Learn what value means to your customers

Why each group chose you, what they want to achieve, and when they first get real value.

  2. Prove one routine

One group, one behaviour, weekly data while they keep it up, against a control group.

  3. Build a plan for each group

The same ingredients, in a different order and mix for each reason customers bank with you.

  4. Launch your own data plan

Your own branded data plan, across your customer groups.

Questions

What evaluating teams ask first.

All questions, by team

What does Aura do?

Aura lets your bank or fintech launch its own mobile data plans and use them to reward the customer behaviours that grow your business, such as salary paid in, higher balances and more everyday transactions.

You set the rules. Aura designs the programme within them, runs the telecom side and the data delivery, and measures what changed.

Why mobile data, and not cashback or points?

Customers already buy mobile data every month and use it constantly, for work, family, entertainment, payments and getting around. It is easy to value and already in the monthly budget.

Cashback is spent and forgotten, and points sit unused. Data from your bank arrives week after week, while the customer keeps qualifying, and it carries your name.

How do we know it is working?

Every programme starts as an experiment: one group of customers, one behaviour, measured against a matched control group that is not offered the plan. The difference between the two groups shows what the programme actually caused.

We measure extra balances, transaction frequency, salary accounts moved and the cost of each extra outcome. Gigabytes given out, clicks and redemption rates are not counted as success.

Who decides the rules?

You do. Your bank decides who qualifies, what they need to do, how much data they receive and how often they qualify. Aura designs a mechanism that works within those rules.

How does our brand appear to customers?

It is your data plan, in your brand, in your channels. A small Powered by Aura credit can sit beneath it as a secondary endorsement. Your brand is always the hero.

What does our team need to build?

Aura handles the integration work, telecom operations, data delivery and reconciliation. Your team provides access to the data that shows qualifying behaviour, and the approvals your processes need.

The integration method is agreed with your technology team during planning, based on what your systems already support.

Start with one behaviour. Grow into a plan.

Tell us the behaviour you want more of. We will show you how a first experiment could test it, and what it would need to be worth.
